Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CIS Dallas) will celebrate 15 years of golfing for a greater purpose at its 15th Annual Kids Classic Golf Tournament, taking place Monday, December 7, 2026, at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine. Chaired by Karl Schmalz, the milestone tournament will feature a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start and, for the first time in the event’s history, bring supporters together at one of North Texas’ most distinctive golf destinations.
For 15 years, the Kids Classic Golf Tournament has helped CIS Dallas raise critical funds to support students throughout the Dallas region and across North Texas. Event participation helps provide the resources, encouragement and opportunities students need to overcome barriers, remain engaged in their education and build a path toward long-term success.
“This tournament has always been about much more than golf. It is about bringing people together around the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed,” said Karl Schmalz, CIS Dallas Board Member and Kids Classic Golf Tournament Chair. “As we celebrate 15 years and move to Cowboys Golf Club, we are excited to offer an incredible experience while continuing to raise critical support for students across North Texas.”
Founded locally in 1985, Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to surrounding students with a community of support and empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS Dallas places trained professionals directly on school campuses, where they work alongside educators, administrators, families and community partners to provide coordinated, individualized support to K–12 students.
Through services focused on academics, attendance, behavior and mental health, social services, college and career readiness and basic needs, CIS Dallas addresses challenges that can interfere with a student’s ability to learn. These challenges may include housing instability, food or clothing insecurity, mental health needs, academic difficulties, inconsistent support systems and other circumstances that extend far beyond the classroom.
CIS Dallas currently serves students across 54 schools in 11 North Texas school districts. During the 2025–2026 school year, nearly 6,000 students received individualized case management services from CIS Dallas. Among students served, 99% were promoted to the next grade level, 96% of eligible high school seniors graduated and 100% remained in school.

This year’s 15th anniversary will offer a new experience for longtime supporters and first-time participants. Cowboys Golf Club recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation and features a redesigned course, a state-of-the-art driving range with Toptracer technology and the unique atmosphere of the world’s only NFL-themed golf club. The new setting gives CIS Dallas an opportunity to celebrate the tournament’s history while elevating the experience for the golfers, sponsors and community partners who make its impact possible.
CIS Dallas is also partnering with Mixed Media Creations (MMC) as the dedicated creative partner for this year’s tournament. The Dallas-Fort Worth full-service marketing and design studio will bring its expertise in branding, design, storytelling, and marketing to the event, helping elevate the tournament experience, strengthen sponsor visibility, and communicate the impact supporters are helping create for students. MMC works with businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations through a collaborative approach that combines creative strategy with purposeful design.
The mission of Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS was founded in 1985 to improve the high school dropout rate in the Dallas area by providing academic, attendance, basic needs, and other support to students in local public schools. Today, in partnership with 11 school districts, CIS serves 54 Elementary, Middle, and High School campuses to serve 5,000 students who have been labeled “at-risk.”
